Samir is the Co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Biomir. Samir is a pharmaceutical professional with over 15 years of experience, Samir has excellent track record in development and delivery of important medicines in multiple therapeutic areas. He holds a Masters degree in Drug Delivery and Formulation Design from University College London, where he also did his QP training. Samir began his career working with pharmaceutical manufacturing area specialised in solid oral dosage. Where he was involved in registration and launch of multiple oncology products. He specialised in Regulatory, Quality and Technical requirement of various dosage for including solid oral, liquid, ointment, gel, vaccines, biologics and API manufacturing.
He has been providing training in Quality and Validation area as an SME for over 5 years and spearheaded several regulatory audits and led/represented his company in audit as an SME. Samir has extensive knowledge in building technology on improving the process of developing and commercializing niche medicines to allow rapid delivery to patient need. He has been in several leadership role across the industry leading and training quality and regulatory standard in multiple area. In-depth knowledge of Quality and Regulatory requirement of Healthcare Industry, Significant experience in running SME’s for multiple dosage form including medical device for Contract Manufacturing Organisations, Significant Quality and Regulatory Management and Training experience, Strong knowledge and experience of M& A / Technology Transfer, Product Development, Consultancy and Training, Strong knowledge of corporate governance inclusive of operational risk, audit and compliance, Significant operational management experience, setting up Quality Management System

A serial entrepreneur and medical innovator Dr. Kasten currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer and a Director of Biomir Life Sciences, Ltd. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Pathology certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology with subspecialty Certification in Medical Microbiology. He is seasoned medical executive having served several public companies including Quest Diagnostics Incorporated (DGX: NYSE) as Chief Laboratory Officer (CLO), SIGA Technologies (SIGA: NASDAQ) as Chief Executive
Officer (CEO), Cleveland Biolabs, Inc. (CBLI: NASDAQ) as Chairman of the Board of Directors. He was elected to the Board of Directors of Enzo BioChem (ENZ: NYSE) serving as, Compensation Committee Chairman, Audit Committee Member and providing pharmaceutical, clinical laboratory and industry regulatory and reimbursement expertise concluding his time limited 9-year term as Lead Independent Director in 2017. He also currently serves as a Member of the Board and Chief Medical Officer for Thompson Oncology Devices, LLC, early-stage developers of novel device immunotherapies for cancer and infectious disease. His current R&D interests include antiviral pharmaceuticals, next generation advanced wound care and the management and prevention of healthcare associated infections.
As a Fellow of the College of American Pathologists, he has held leadership positions and received major recognition awards including the Hartman Award from the College of American Pathologists (CAP) medical professional organization for his role as Chairman of the Publications Committee in the founding of CAP Today the College’s Monthly Magazine.
Dr. Kasten is a graduate of the Ohio State University College of Medicine. His residency was served at the University of Miami, Florida and fellowships at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center (NIH) where he specialized in microbiology and infectious disease and at the Laboratory of Pathology National Cancer Institute (NCI) in Bethesda, Maryland.

Professor Ricciardi serves as an advisor on the Biomir board, leveraging his extensive expertise in the field. His research focuses on unraveling the molecular mechanisms underlying viral tumorigenesis and disease. One recent breakthrough centers on the identification of a viral protein, E1A-12, that exerts control over NF-kB, the pivotal regulator of the immune system. These findings open new avenues for innovative approaches to modulate inflammation and combat various forms of cancer.
Furthermore, Professor Ricciardi's investigations have uncovered processivity factors facilitating DNA synthesis in human viruses such as HHV-6 and KSHV, the latter being a causative agent of malignancy in AIDS patients. These discoveries hold promise for the development of antiviral therapies to combat these infections.
Additionally, his work in the realm of antiviral therapy has yielded promising candidate compounds designed to inhibit the replication of vaccinia virus, a close relative of the smallpox virus with bioterrorism implications. Professor Ricciardi's contributions are advancing our understanding of viral diseases and paving the way for innovative treatments and preventive measures.
